Volunteering
Volunteering is a great way for alumni to give back and get involved with the Management School and University. There are many ways for alumni to volunteer with us, whether you've just graduated or have a wealth of experience.
Alumni are an inspiration to our students, providing first-hand knowledge and guidance from your own experiences. Nothing compares to hearing from those who were once students themselves. That’s why at the Management School, we encourage alumni to be involved in our student experience activities right from the start of our students' journey, through guest speaking, career talks, skills sessions and workshops, mentoring and more.
Why volunteer?
There are many reasons to become an alumni volunteer:
- Stay connected with Sheffield and the Management School
- Make a difference to students
- Boost your skills
- Expand your networks
- Identify future talent
Opportunities at the Management School
- Share your story
We welcome stories from our alumni anytime! Share your journey on our Alumni Story Bank to inspire the next generation of Management Alumni - it's a quick and meaningful way to volunteer with no ongoing commitment required. Submit your story
- Host a student project
Alumni often work for organisations that are interested in hosting student projects. Student projects are research dissertation projects carried out by masters level Management School students, set by you as the host organisation and guided by us.
- Become a guest speaker
Students enjoy listening to alumni from a range of career backgrounds and from different companies and organisations. Guest speaking is a great way to share your knowledge and advice and gain exposure for your company. Guest talks from alumni can be delivered in person and online.
- Host a company visit
The Management School organises a range of company visits for students to gain practical insights into different working environments. Some of these visits are hosted by alumni or by the companies they work for.
- Provide a student placement
Placements provide a great opportunity for students to gain work experience before they graduate. Placements can be hosted by alumni or the organisations they work for.
- Recruit students and graduates
As an alumnus working for an organisation or perhaps owning your own company, you may be interesting in our talent pool of Management School students and graduates. You can advertise internships, part-time or graduate roles, or other vacancies to our students and graduates.
Opportunities at the University
As well as volunteering at the Management School, you can also get involved with opportunities across the University. Find out more about Alumni volunteering opportunities with the University.
