- Profile
-
I joined the University in 1997 as a PhD student. During the course of my PhD, I discovered a number of novel anti-angiogenic agents which were patented by the ±¬ÁÏTV.
In 2002 I became a guest lecturer on an intercalated BSc in UCL, teaching cancer biology & angiogenesis.
In 2004 I was appointed to a lectureship and started teaching on the MBChB course and on cancer biology in MBB. I was awarded the Certificate in Learning and Teaching in 2009.
In 2013 I designed and established the MSc(Res) in Translational Oncology and ran this until 2021. In 2016 I became a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Senior Lecturer.
I was the departmental director of learning and teaching for the Department of Oncology & Metabolism from 2018-2021.
In 2018 I was appointed to become the Director of Intercalation and started running the BSc in Medical Sciences Research course for intercalating medical students.
In 2021 I moved to the section of Medical Education, where I am now the Deputy Director of Student Support, the director of the Academic Tutoring scheme, the disability liaison officer for MBChB students, History of Medicine and Critical Analysis Student Selected Component leads and teach biochemistry to first year students. I am also a member of the University Discipline Committee.
- Research interests
-
My current research interests are student perceptions and decision-making processes around intercalation, and the challenge of choice within the medical school curriculum.
Collaborative research with colleagues in Sheffield also includes investigations into incidentaloma in modern medicine, the challenges and potential solutions.

I am passionate about student support and welfare and am the Deputy Director of Student Support for the MBChB and PA courses and am also the Disability Liaison Officer for MBChB students and head up the Academic Tutor scheme for these students.
I run the intercalation course and the first two student selected components and am passionate about seeing medical students develop their skills in academic research and enhance their CVs for future job applications.
I am an academic tutor and/or mentor for undergraduate medical students, PGT and PGR students in the Medical school and was nominated for Best Academic Mentor in the Annual Academic Awards 2018.
