Research Project Title: Understanding the Effects of Permeability and Surface Roughness on Turbulent Open Channel Flows
The aim of this research project is to understand the effects of surface roughness and permeability on turbulent flow behaviour in open channel flows, and to develop new empirical correlations that can be used to predict open channel flows for given surface roughness, permeability, and flow depth.
These objectives will be achieved using the Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry (S-PIV) experimental technique. S-PIV will focus on the cross-section of the flume to resolve all three components of velocity, turbulent statistics, and associated flow structures.
