I hold an Honorary Research Fellowship at Sheffield, following several years as Programme Director for the University’s MA in Music Psychology in Education, Performance and Wellbeing. I am now a Lecturer in Music Education within the Institute of Education at University College London, where I am involved in projects on singing, brass bands and wellbeing, gender identity, and EDI in Higher Education. At Leeds Conservatoire (where I have taught on the BA Acting and Actor Musician Courses, and the MA in Musical Direction), I am Professor of Voice, Wellbeing and Performance Psychology. Visiting Lectureships have included York St John University and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. My research is largely qualitative, reflecting my specialisms in music and wellbeing, performance psychology, and diverse experiences of musical participation in education and community settings.
