Interested in pursuing a career in sustainability after completing your studies? Join the Grantham Centre for our first ‘Careers for Sustainable Futures’ event this April. We’re welcoming back two of our alumni to talk about their inspiring career journeys and share some valuable insights, hints and tips to help you secure a role in this rewarding industry.
In the first event of our series, you will hear from Dr Theresa Nelson (Transport and Energy Project Officer, Institute of Transport Studies), and Dr George Coiley (Sustainability Manager, Northern Powergrid).
This is the perfect opportunity to explore the diverse roles within sustainability and learn how you can apply your PhD skills to deliver real-world impact. So come along and join our friendly community for this free lunchtime session followed by a Q&A and networking. Tea and coffee will be provided. Feel free to bring your own lunch.

Dr Theresa Nelson
Theresa is the Transport and Energy Project Officer for the in University of Leeds. She works across various projects including , , and , taking on a range of responsibilities, from coordinating research and managing participant recruitment to engagement and communications.
Outside of ITS, Theresa serves as the Public Engagement Coordinator for the (CVAP), where she’s led participant and public surveys and co-produced fieldwork, exhibitions, documentaries, and events with local community members, volunteers, and researchers.
Dr George Coiley
George works as the Sustainability Manager at . His role sees him coordinating Northern Powergrid’s sustainability strategy. This brings together the company’s work to prepare the electricity grid for Net Zero and ensure the company has positive impacts on communities, as well as improving its own environmental performance.
